Default Hull #3 is returning to the bunch

I am going to pickup Hull # 3 tomorow and can not wait. She now has a black hull instead of the Red but still has the white un painted gelcoat bottom. powered w/ an older set of twin 2.4 mercs. early to mid 80's and still has the original windsheild. I will post some pics as soon as I can.

Hey Top Banana I now onw an original Banana built by you. The boat is in fairly good shape for a 76. The interior is sort of beat and the engines are by no means new. The boat is no longer red it was repainted black but the bottom is still original white gelcoat. I think i may need to redue the transom and was thinking about going w/ an i/o instead of the outboards. How hard of a conversion would that be? Another question is what is the best size for trin tabs just has a normal bennett type tab i would guess original.

Any info you have on this boat would be great I talked to chatim and he gave me the history and I talked to Airdog and he told me what to look for in a used banana.

That boat was originally built for an IO....so the layup is the right one and the stringers are right too. Your only problem would be to fill in the rear deck and transom area.

We are doing that right now with another older outboard boat. We should have some photos in a couple of weeks on the progress on that. He is going with a full deck and putting outboards on a bracket off the transom.

When you decide the power you are going to use, that is when you would decide what trim tabs to use. Twin or single outboard on a bracket should be the long tabs....an IO just Bennett's if you are not going to race it.

Charlie if I want to run at a 65/ 70 mph what would it take for i/o power. Also could that be done w/ a single outboard w/out going with a full blown race outboard.

thanks

Josh

Charlie will know better, but a stock 454 Mag (365hp) will make it go 65-70mph.

A stock 300hp V8 OMC will make it go 65mph. Put it on a hydraulic jackplate (17inches) and it will go 70-72mph. MrV8Outboard will know better here.

A stock 250 hp Yamaha hanging on the transom made my white Banana go 65mph! A hydraulic Jack plate (17inches) should put you at 70mph with this set up.

I think Charlie Jr's boat goes 60mph with a 225hp hanging on a 12 foot bracket and bottom paint...

If you running an outboard you will want either a 24 or 26p chopper prop.

Hope I helped.
