Konrad claims you can swap out your trs drives for their konrads without removing you engines....How can this be done without removing your transom assembly?? Do the konrads bolt up to the merc gimbles? could it be that easy?

Yes

It is that easy and that's what makes them the best replacement for the TRS. It is highly recommended to replace the transom assembly because if the drive is that old and beat, more than likely so are the bushings in the assembly.

The Konrad 540 PRS system is designed as a direct bolt-on for a TRS package. Yes, you can bolt the Konrad drive to a TRS transom assembly. (just need to swap the drive bell) One drawback to the 1/2 conversion is if you elect to retain your TRS transom assy, the Konrad drive is fitted with a U-joint three sizes smaller than the standard Konrad U-joint.
But.. the system is priced so it really makes sense to do a complete conversion, including the Konrad transom assembly. When purchased as a complete Konrad conversion, you get our heavy duty transom assembly, including trim rams for only about $1800 more.

To answer your question, yes, the old TRS transom assy can be removed without pulling the motors. All of the 3/4" are accessable, (the two just below the trans mount need a flex-socket) drop the trim hose manifold, undo the existing trim pump lines and pull the TRS transom assy off the back. The existing TRS inner transom plate is retained If the motors are not mounted front & rear, the rear of the motor must be supported. A full TRS conversion can be completed within a days work.

I did the conversion with my Cigarette Mistress. It was easy. I am looking forward to splash it in a few months. Better then worrying about lower pinion grears breaking loose.

Couple things I have wondered regarding Konrads;

When replacing bravos, does the engine move forward?

How is the rear of the engine supported, the tranny?

Has anyone compared the speeds to a bravo in that particular swap? TRS would be easy to beat but curious about the bravo conversions.

The Konrad Ace system is designed for a Bravo conversion. The motor stays in the same location as a Bravo, on the same front mount. We do have a rear mount inside the box, located off the trans tailstock, but we do recommend installing a rear motor plate.
As for speeds, the two 2005 Sonics (38'&42') that Doller Offshore converted last spring ran about 3 mph slower than the Bravo but had eliminated drive failure in these boats. These are boats that blew @ 10 Bravo drives in 2005. We now offer a shorty lower unit and hope to see speed numbers even closer.
