Looking in to buying a set of trim tabs for my 1986 Scarab I, 21ft. It has a stock
5.7 w/through hull. Just wondering if a 16" long tab would be waaaay overkill. Any thoughts? Would it make it dangerous? Hard to control? Loose speed? The only reason is I can get a really good deal on the 16" tabs w/dual rams.....

whats a good deal? I just purchased a set of heavy duty K planes and have a 16" set of bennet's for sale. they are dual ram with the indicators. the tabs and brackets just came back from being powder coated and are still in the bubble wrap. here is a pic of the back of the 24 predator they were on. they work great on a narrow beam boat. never really had them on a wide boat.

As I understand it, there really isn't any overkill. The longer the tab, the less drag for a given amount of lift. I'd also theorize that longer tabs will make the boat act like a larger boat in rough water even when they're up. Not a bad thing for a 21ft'r depending on what kind of water you run on.
