Default Number 6 rooster tails?

Not having number 6 drives, someone enlighten me as to what causes the big rooster tail. Also, has anyone played around with TRS drives or tried to attach something to get such a rooster tail?

A portion of the prop runs out of the water. That's the reason for the rooster tail.

SSM 6's are surface piercing drives. When running and trimmed up, a portion of the prop is breaking the surface of the water. They also run props designed to pierce the surface of the water. TRS's are not made for that and "adding" something to get a rooster will increase prop slip and reduce top speed.

About the only thing that you can add to get more tail is hydromotive props and Konrad drives, the Konrad is about 1.6" shorter than the TRS and the pointed blades on the true 15.5 diameter hydromotive prop will pierce the surface more. A rather expensive method and you still will not have a tail like a 6

When we were kids we used to trailer the drive up past the trim limit and make tails. Lots of slip, speed loss, revs would go up but it would stay on plane and make a huge tail. Tough on the gimbal and ujoints but we didnt even know what ujoints were at that point. Nothing ever failed but I wouldnt do it now.

You can attach an arneson and spray tail all day long.

They have the bravo/arneson conversions now that will do the same thing(2 blades in the water and 2 blades out).Nothing as strong as the arneson though.
