I was looking at the pics at the cockpit I only see one morse control did that control both throttles and clutch? or did you have a second control? wondering how the older race boats were set up.

One lever controlled both.

ok this may be a stupid question but is there any way to control the throttle w/out engaging the clutches? when using that style control?

Yes. If you pull out on the control in while in neutral, you are able to use just the throttle and not engage the clutches.

I dont think that works on the morse style controls that Top Banana had.

Those controls could be grabbed around the joint and pulled out....that put the trans in neutral and you could rev the motors up.

By popping them back in, it then gave you FWD - N - REV and by pushing them far enough ahead, it gave you the throttles only.

They worked very cleanly and could be used with no problem for racing.

Don't forget I didn't use a throttleman in that boat, I drove, trimmed and throttled myself.

With the three compasses, I could put a navigator on either side or sometimes we put in one different compass as a test for Ritchie, to see how it lasted as compared to the others.

With that boat being so fast and so small, most of the navigating was done by looking quickly at the compass for a reading and then picking out a cloud on the horizon. I would aim for the cloud until I felt I needed another check and then do it all over again.

Most races lasted 2 to 3 hours
