hummer towing capacity

It depends ALOT on how you drive. If you plan on drive down the highway at 80 while you tallk on the cell phone than probably not. If your not going far and you keep it slow and easy than should not be a problem.

Don't you know you can tow the Queen Mary with a Yugo if you have air bags and take it slow.
Which version of Hummer??
My wife drives an H3, and it's only rated for 4500#s.
I don't think the H2s are rated much higher, not sure about the H1.
Towing is not what these things were built for.
Get a truck to tow it.

As a transmission guy I like to remind people the hummer h2 uses a 4l65e transmisssion,it is the same transmission a 1/2 ton z-71 uses with a extra set of pinion gears in the planetaries. Because of its large profile and heavy weight it is already taxed empty,I wouldn't reccomend towing anything much over 6000 lbs. A 1/2 ton chevy, trail blazers, colorados use 4l60e's,6.0 lightweight gm stuff uses the 4l65e (which is slightly stronger but not much),gm's hd 3/4 ton stuff uses the 4l85e unless optioned up to the allison. Again, these 4l60 based transmissions were really meant for light/medium use and they go up in smoke when you try towing 8000 plus pounds behind them for long distances if your out hammering thru grades, hills ,mountains, hot weather,Smitty

You must know our friend George. He Has an H1 to pull a 38 fever and it sucks. It will get it moving ok, but it won't stop and you can't see out of the windows to park or back it up. Buy a dually or something cool like a Kodiak or International

Dont do it.....arctic is spot on. The 4l60,65,70 trans family isnt suited for anything but a v8 with heavy amts of torque managment. I have the 70 in my truck and while it does shift harder than a reg 65 and contain a couple upgraded parts, it feels less than adequite pulling my 27...and its rated for 9900 lbs. The trans is something you really cant take chances with. $$$$$$ to fix

Hey Artic I have a 98 chevy conversion with the 350. what tranny do you think it has and could i install the 485le to upgrade the towing capacity.Would it be a direct bolt up with a length adjustment for the driveshaft and possibly a different crossmember?
Also is there any remanufactures you can buy rebuilds from.Had a horrible experience with a 700R in a older van i had with AAmco. They rebuilt it 7 times in 40,000 miles ,thank god i bought the extended warranty. That experince scares me from ever having mine rebuilt again.Would probaly go to GM and buy a brand new one and pay the big bucks for the peace of mind if there is no good remanufactures out there.
