Hull staining

Took the Donzi out yesterday for my first run with it. I spent much of the off season cleaning & polishing...among other things. I loaded it on the trailer & noticed yellow staining covering most of the bottom. I did clean the bottom, but have not polished it. I managed to get most of the staining off with some Citrus cleaning agent (by the way, that stuff really works well). What can I put on the hull to prevent this from happening? Can I just put a good coat of boat wax, & let it go, or is there some "Magic" stuff I need to look for. I boat mostly in the Gulf, but I usually launch in the back bay, & run around to the front. I do see alot of boats around this area, that has alot of this same staining, but I have to think that there is something I can do to prevent this from happening. I appreciate any help with this.

As the fiberglass ages pores open up in it. Coloration in the water will cause it to stain. Here on the Chesapeake we have a lot of tannic acid rom all the plant life. It stains the hull in hours. The best thing to remove it is muriatic acid (On and Off) but that just opens the pore more and makes it worse over time. The only sure fire way to stop it is paint with Imron-but they don't recommend leaving the boat in the water for an extended period of time with Imron on it. ( A week seems to be the most anyone says is okay-some say 3 days max) You can wax the crap out of the bottom and as long as it lasts it will keep it off some, but as the wax begins to leave, brown comes back.

BTW there is some evidence that whale snot will solve the problem, but we are waiting on Rosie to get another cold to perform more testing

I do appreciate the input, never thought of the muriatic acid, I suppose it makes sense that the Citrus Clean works so well..."citric acid"....I will give it a good waxing, maybe a couple of coats, hopefully that will buy me a couple of seasons, the stains really look awful.....On the other hand, the Rosie thing may be an option, I hear she is looking for a "job"....

I've always used full strength, but what do I know?
I haven't experienced any ill effects from it, but that doesn't mean there aren't any. I'm not a fiberglass expert.
I do however, wash it off real good with the hose afterwards.

I cut On/Off about 25% product/75% water. Brush it on and let sit 2-3 minutes. It cleans all the stains off butopens the pores so it will stain even WORSE the next time in the water if you don't close the pores up. I try to keep a coat or 2 of wax on the bottom which works well. Once at the begining of the season, On/Off the bottom and re-wax at mid season seems to work well with near weekly dunkings late April through early Oct.
