I'm going through some turbo issues, coking and the variable boost vane sticking. The dealer attributes the sticking to long periods at idle. I typicaly start my truck in the morning, come back in the house get my coffee, check my email and then leave. which amounts to about 10 min..they said that was too long..6 hrs..idunno

read somewhere if you are going to idle the 6.0 need to have the high idle feature....(just taping a wire and putting a a switch on)...if you don't you can wash the cylinders.....again just what i have seen others say.

you probably need the high idle deal.....but in all honesty diesels are suppoesed to be able to run long periods of time. Every dealer will probably say something different. Why do you need to run it that long? Sleep? Just get a cigarette lighter fan for comfort.

I wonder if that's a standard feature on some models. The old man's '07 6.0 starts to idle high on its own after a little bit.

Did you sleep in it or did you fall asleep and leave it running?

My '06 6.0L will idle up (1200 rpm) after a while to prevent the wet stacking, after about 5 minutes it drops back down. There is also a wire that you can jump to the up fitter switches to do it manually.
