Hyd Steering :) - Trailer woes :(
#1
Well, we got the hydraulic steering installed and the Super drives like a new boat.
Bad news, on the way home one of the trailer brakes locked and overheated the grease and ate the bearings up. We didn't notice it until we were almost home. We limped it back to the house. It looks like brakes, bearings, and most likely an axle due to driving it so long. The big problem is getting it somewhere to have it repaired. I'm pretty much afraid to take it very far, and there are no trailer shops near here in Owasso. I think I'll try Robertson's tire up the street and see if they can change all of that our for me tomorrow. I'm going with 15" wheels and tires as well. May as well get it all done at once!

I don't know if I would trust robinson. A few years ago i sold my boat to some people in iowa and they stoped by robinson in ba to have the wheel bearings changed and had the trailer for three days and one of the bearings failed just as they pulled into iowa.

I agree Phragle, definitely lucky on that one! Thankfully it made it and didn't burn everything up.
Gary, to be honest, I'm not seeing any real difference in the performance of the boat now vs before the prop work was done. I think is does have better mid range acceleration, but it is about the same on the top end. I may call BBlades again and see what he thinks. I haven't had a chance to really wring it out yet since we just got the steering on this weekend, and the water was a bit too rough for the 24 to make great speed runs.
As far as Robertson goes, I have a pretty good relationship with the one here in Owasso. They have always done good work for me and I've come to trust them. It's in their hands now in any case!
I guess we'll see.
Thanks for the replies!
