93 World Class 28' - Prop Selection Advice
Need advice on prop selection for my 93 World Class 28'. Drive is Bravo 1 with an IMCO 1" lower. 540 Merlin II @ 680HP. Current prop is a Revolution 4 RH 23 pitch which was already tweaked when I purchased the boat. Any suggestions? Is there a better prop for this combination? Looking for more top end speed prop. What are you guys using?

Well I have the same prop on my v bottom and love it. That prop is gaining a lot of attention and seems better then the bravo 1. It just sucks that the do not make any big pitches in it. It seems that you would need a bigger pitch with all that power. What RPM are running and what MPH. That Will tell us which direction you need to go.

Appreciate the reply horsepower452. With the tweaked prop it's running about 75mph on speedo (not-GPS) at 5500 RPM. So I am guessing that there is a lot of prop slip with this prop. Alot of cavitation when coming on to plane. So, since I need a new prop, before I fork out the bucks (no demo props available in my area) I was curious to what you all were running. The guy I bought the boat from said it was GPSd with same prop at 90 pmh (before he tweaked the prop). So, maybe this is the right prop for the boat at this HP.

Well the only way you can go is to try a 26p bravo 1. But that will bring your RPM's down to 5100 and thats too low. Speedo's are off but 20mph diff would be amazing. Not doubting but it would be amazing. The rev4 props are designed too give both bow and stern lift. They get the whole boat out of the water but I am not sure how they would work on a 28fter. Mine is a 25 and I was told that was the limit as far as their ability to pick a hull up. I still think it is hard to believe that a 23p even labbed which can change the pitch 1degree up or down would be enough for that power. But, RPM does not lie and I have doubts you are going to do much better. Do you think you may be making less power? Not doubting but just asking the question to get a good picture of where you need to be. I will have a 26p you can try next week.

Thanks horsepower452. I broke down and bought a Rev 4 23P yesterday. Fair price $425.00. Supposed to arrive in the morning so I'm planning to head to the Lake and test it out this weekend. I'll bring my handheld GPS and see what it shows vs. the speedo. As for the power, the motor was dyno'd at 680HP according to the engine builder. I have yet to have it Dyno'd myself. I can tell you that there is plenty of power as when I rap it to WOT, the rear literally torques and than comes up out the water and gets on plane. Pretty awesome how it pops up so quickly.
