I’m surprised that no one has commented on the announcements John Carbonell made at the Driver’s Meeting.
Seems SBI/APBA is going to the movies. Yep…Big John said it himself…SBI/APBA Racing will be in over 700 movie theaters.
While the announcement was not specific…we all know how John can sound a lot like Yogi Berra (“déjà vu all over again”)…the announcement went something like this:
SBI is putting together footage of past races for showing before/after the feature movies in some 700+ movie theaters across the nation. This will start on the West Coast and expand to other markets, including the Southeast and Florida.
Two other announcements at the Driver’s Meeting that should be of interest to teams and their Sponsors concern the WAVE Magazine (600,000 paid subscribers and #2 in their category for rack sales) coverage of Offshore Racing, and filming during the Sarasota race for a Discovery Channel show about extreme machines.
There was a whole lot of information packed into that short meeting….

Checking back over Shannon's notes (she is a better listener than me), she noted that the WAVE Sponsorship program includes a newspaper insert in the Miami Herald that will go to home subscribers in targeted markets. The insert will be placed in newspapers delivered to homes with zip codes that have waterfront property in the Miami/Dade area.
The insert will feature SBI teams and races. If a team Sponsor buys a 1/2 or full page ad for the insert or the magazine, the publisher will do a feature article on the team.
I almost forgot...Lucas Oil.
Seems that they have stepped up with a contingency program. Place a Lucas Oil sticker on your boat and get 4-cases of Lucas Oil product each time you win a race in your Class.
Good stuff...we use a lot of it.

I stand corrected.
Seems I (and others) missed an important part of the announcements regarding the SBI Movie or I should say Cinema program.
Race footage will not be shown before/after the feature films.
SBI is now under contract with a cinema production company to release several 1-1/2 hour feature films about Offshore Racing.
The films will be editited to include past and future SBI racing. I'm sure almost everyone has seen the Lucas Oil production that features the teams in action in the pits...I hear the film crews will be working the SBI pits getting pre and post-race activity like fueling, decal installation, engine prep and etc. to augment the racing action.
So...the films will be shown as full length features in 700+ theaters. The premier of the first film is planned for Miami sometime this fall..hopefully right before the Worlds in Key West.
After the films are released in theaters, they will be avaliable on DVD in places like Blockbuster, Wal Mart, K-Mart, Target, and etc. TV broadcast of the films will follow their release on DVD.
Boy...did I get that confused

The discovery show is called Build it Bigger with host
Danny Forster. I happened to take him for a 171mph blast in Sarasota bay. I don't understand why he wanted to get out of the boat before we headed out into the gulf?
