Default Off Topic,dumb airline question

Flying to Formula dealer meeting Sunday, haven't flown in a long time, need to take my walking cane. TSA website says canes can be in carryon bag after inspection, but it won't fit. Can I walk into the plane with it and give it to the flight attendent,or what?

The airlines will have to accomodate you one way or the other and a lot depends on the particular carrier.

Here's Delta's posted policy:

"Additional Items that may be brought on board and do not count towards your allowance: a food item for immediate consumption, assistive devices such as wheelchairs or crutches provided passenger is dependent on them"

If they can not store the cane over head then I would think they would stow it for you once you are seated then return it when you land. If they won't let you use the cane to board, then it would be up to them to assist you with boarding via wheelchair, etc.

I had a great aunt who had her hip replaced after her 87th birthday who flew to California until her mid-90's. They would put her on a cart and take her straight to the gate and then transfer to wheelchair and board her first, even though she could walk better than the stewardesses. She just acted frail and said that at her age, she deserved to be pampered.

I would call them ahead of time and let them know, they are more accommodating that way

Kinda funny, walked onto the first Delta flight with my cane, kept it in front of me the whole flight, attendant stood by me and chatted. Next flight the attendant said I had to put it in the overhead bin,no problem of course, but seems weird that the two flights, same Delta, had different rules. Main thing is I am in Sannibel looking at all the new 08 Formulas, forget the cane.

The second attendent fallowed the proper protocall for all carriers. They do not want the cane out because if there is an accident it becomes a missle. The second flight you probably looked a whole lot more scetchy because of all the drinks you had on your layover
