I Know, it's not an Offshore, but it's a Formula!

Just saying hi to all the Formula drivers- after being off the water with the exception of the ski and fishing boats, we're back into a Formula again; an old but nice 1982 25SC. We had sold our beautiful twin-powered 242LS to facilitate our purchase of 15 acres and 3800' of shorefront in Northern Ontario, and then came the 28 Active Thunder. I forecast an imminent job loss and got out of the AT just in time before the axe fell, so for 3 years we haven't had a good boat for cruising.
I picked this boat up at an auction for $3K, put a new $3K aluminum I-beam torsion axle trailer under it, and dropped it in the water. It needed nothing! Original elderly owners moving to Arizona for retirement.
It's not quite a performance boat, but the hull seems to be VERY similar to the 242LS we once owned, and it will do an honest 44 top end on a single Merc 260. Cruises at 33 with a very reasonable fuel burn (I wish it had a BB and Bravo- the fuel burn would probably be about the same since that small-block is working hard back there). It sleeps four VERY comfortably (has quarter berths that run lengthwise to the hull under the captain and copilot cockpit chairs- 7 foot long! I'm adding a microwave, AC, two more batteries and an inverter along with some hot-cold upgrades to the fresh-water system. A new stereo and DVD-flat screen is going in for the child unit. Gotta love the mods!
We carry a small generator (Yamaha 2800W or the Honda 2000i- either will run everything including air) for our camping trips out on the Mississippi- it still had the original canvas that was in bad shape but gave our canvas shop the pattern for a new full camper with roll-up eisenglass and screens.
It's absolutely amazing the build quality of this boat, and the thought that went into it by Formula for storage both in the cabin and cockpit. It's the largest feeling 25' boat I've ever been on, and for the time-being, probably a little better idea with a two-year old with us than traveling up the Mississippi like we used to with our hair on fire (she's already a driver!). There will be another performance boat sometime in our future, though!
I'm always proud to be seen pulling a Formula behind the truck or driving one on the water- one of the best boats you can own, new or old, fast or slow! Have a great summer!!!!
Jim

Hey Jon- great to see you're still out there! She really loves boating! I'm not having too hard a time adapting to a 6' stand-up cabin either. Send me a PM sometime- it's been a long time since we talked.
