for the up keep of a boat......

I went out and looked at a boat today..... and while there i asked about the up keep on a boat....

The sales guy told me $3000 a month(not including gas of course)... is that about right.... sounds like he was talking about the slip, storage, maint......

I need to find a way to get out on the water.....

Depends on what kinda boat your dealing with.
For the "average" go-fast, that sounds pretty high to me - unless it includes drinks

that's a wide open question, 1)how big 2)hi-perf. or family 3)where are you keeping it? in key west basically 15 bucks a foot per mo.(covered) 4 bucks a gallon at the marina,????

You need to specify what kind of boat and engines.

For up keep on my 24 python with a 502 390hp it was about $800 for a good year (small repairs) but I budgeted for $1000-$2000 PER YEAR just in case. Always drove it nice and easy.

Sea Ray 24 is a lot different than a Sea Ray 30.

My family has a 2004 24 sea ray sundeck with the 6.2. We keep on a lift = 300 per month. We do all the maintenance by the book plus buff every year. We put on 100hrs a year which is twice as much as average. Every year - service outdrive, winterize, buff, wax, 2 oil changes, = $1,200. It cost like $200 just to pull the boat with no trailer. Most marinas do this by the ft. If you don't drive it that much you can get away with servicing the outrive every other year (or 2 depending on use). On a good year you can not have any problems, but not every year is good - need to have atleast $1,000 handy (for the 24 sea ray) maybe more. New batteries every 3 years. 30ft is a lot different........and I don't really know.............maybe twice as much as the 24 plus pulling the boat and painting/coating the bottom. This is what I pay in TX - other places with higher cost of living may be more.

So let me get this straight:

Buy a 30' offshore powerboat for 150K (ie. a "cheap" one). Pay $450 a month just to store it. Put $500 worth of fuel in it any weekend you want to play. $5000 a year for maintenance. Insurance? God only knows what that will cost you. There are ALOT of wealthy folks on this website!............... I'm in the wrong business.

Key is too do alot of the maintenace and all of the up keep yourself. This makes boating more affordable and gives more cash for gas! I don't even want to know what I spend on my boat, If I knew I might have seconds thoughts about being a boat. Well I thought about it na, I love the water and boating no matter the price!
