If you are looking at replacing the stock manifolds and NOT spending a fortune, check out Marineexhaustmanifolds.com . They carry replacements at a very good price. I have used their products on 2 different boats and, and have seen ZERO problems with either.
As for the aluiminum VS stainless, if you boat in salt water, go with stainless.

I have two sets of fresh water use only stock merc manifolds with elbows. No leaks and all you need is gaskets(elbow and exhaust). Manifolds are in cali and can have them shipped out this week. 300.00 a set plus shipping.... These type do hook up to the GIL pipes...

Right now I have the stock Merc manifolds with no leaks, just was looking to up grade performance and maybe shed some weight with the lighter alumium ones..I have steel heads and was worried about expantion differences between the steel and alumium killing the gaskets...I do mostly lake but salt water maybe once or twice a year...thanks for all the input

Give these some thought, http://revolutionmarine.com/shopsite...bcexhaust.html
cant be beat for the price and fit well. I know of two sets that have four years use in salt and fresh, no problems so far.

I installed them for a buddy, they have a very nice sound and may be slightly faster than stock, in the range of 2 mph, if you do a search on Revolution headers or exhaust you will find plenty of positive feedback
