Default Best prop for Sonic '98 42SS with HP 500's?

Just had the engines freshened and the builder said he was able to go (briefly) to 5600 with the B1 24's.

He said Speedo was 70.

I just bought the boat so I am not sure what prop work if any was done.

Should I look at at B1 26's or maybe 5 blades??

I am testing some Sonics right now with our 5B CNC props. So far the results have been great.,....surprisingly! But for a 42' boat, if the drive heigth is condusive, 5B props will simply carry the boats length much better.

Thanks for the reply.

I am concerned about load on the outdrives with 5 blades as the boat has Bravo's.

What power do you have?
What gear ratio?

15% slip isn't too bad for your particular hull with 4 blade props. Of course we don't know actual speed or the true consistancy of the current propellers (assuming 1.5 gear ratio).

You may like the mid range the 5 blade props give you but top end speed gains are ify with the 5 blades depending on the true numbers you are running and the attitude they create with extra stern lift. Especially at 42 feet. Definately try them if you can. Rotation can be critical on your hull as well.

Driving habits are most important with drive train life. Oh yeah, too much power will always take its toll and a little quicker with 5 blades on standard B1 drives.

We have the Maximus propeller available for testing too. We charge $30 to try a set for 15 days.

The 500's have been built back to spec with some minor tweeks in the valve train so lets say 470 to 500 HP. Boat is new to me, but it must be the 1.50 ratio.

I have a set of Mirage + 25P 3 blades but it would seem crazy to try on this size of boat.......might not plane!
