The 292 was designed for small blocks only. Even if you could shoe horn big blocks into it,there would be so much weight in the stern it would float like a Fountain,and we don't want that
The best setup was the 377 Scorpions,we sold a few,nice performance,but Merc discontinued them.Best choice now is aftermarket mods on 350's or 6.2's. Don't discount the small blocks,lots of mods available from respected vendors.80+ is obtainable,our 377's ran that fast,but they cost too much. With the money you save on 6.2's over 377's,you can buy some serious aftermarket horsepower.
