Default no water pressure?

took the boat out today and my left motor read no water pressure then bogged down and started smoking? whats up with that it smelt like burnt rubber and the coolant was so hot it was boiling, what could have caused this? the motor is a 496ho with about 30 hours on it.

thanks

Sounds like you lost an impeller. Did you install new ones this year? They don't like to sit over the winter. Also could be an obstruction. It doesn't take much to get sucked up against the intake.

hello 1-800-Mercury come fix my busted azz shiat.lol

Sounds like you smoked an impeller, so you were not getting any raw water across the radiator to cool the antifreese in the motors. thus the overheating issue.

I dont even know what an impeller is. How bad is this going to hurt the motor considering it overheated?

An Impeller is the rubber wheel in the raw water pump that pumps lake water into your cooling system to keep the engine cool. Depending on how hot the motor got, and for how long will determine the amount of damage. Everything should be covered under your 1 year warranty. Id call your dealer and have them look at it as soon as possible.

Water is what cools your engine and your exhaust. When water pressure reads 0, then you shut it down ASAP, NOW!!!!! The impeller is what sucks the water in. Its a $50 part. You may have just trashed the entire engine. Chances are good that you blew a head gasket and melted your exhaust hoses.
Good luck getting it paid for under warranty. The ECM will show that you ran it when it was overheated.

There are guages on your dash. The 2 most important ones are the temp and oil pressure. Learn how to read them

how far/long did you run it with no water pressure?

when it over heated, alarms should have come on.

you may have hurt the head gaskets, and/or the exhaust hoses. You may have hurt nothing.

If you trashed the impellor, you will need to backflush the cooling system to get rid of the pieces that are going to be in your oil cooler and your heat exchanger.

As you said you don't know what an impellor is, this is probably not the best time to learn. It has to be fixed right. Take it to the dealer, and let him fix it.

I was just wandering why an alarm didnt sound when the engine lost water pressure and the temp rose up? should have had an alarm! It wouldnt even have made it to the burning everything up stage. As soon as the water pressure dropped the alarm would have sounded.

I don't believe that there is an alarm on the low water pressure, only on the high water temp/low oil pressure, and low drive oil
