Default is it water?

Hi all,

I have a question for the forum. I have a 1998 Scarab running twin 350's. Starboard engine will run like a raped ape when the drive isn't engaged. as soon as the drive is engaged the RPM's will go to about 2k maybe a little more, but thats it. I drained some fuel out of the fuel rail on the Starboard side and it didn't have that strong gas odor. I didd the same with the Port fuel rail and that has a stron gasoline odor. So, do you think I need to replace the fuel water seperator, or do I have a bigger problem? Any questions or comments are as always welcome.

Thanks,

Sulfur1

If you want to check for water in your fuel, take the water sep off and dump into a glass. Wait a half hour or so and then look for a separation. Fuel will be on the top.

You can refill the filter with fuel and reinstall it if its not very old.

If you've got that much water in the seperator you'll see it immediately. Replace the seperator if any water or debris is found. Then purge your fuel rail if you found water, if your problem still exists then move towards a prop issue. Make sure that the thrust washer behind your prop is installed, the lack of it will cause that exact symptom.

Ok Trippin, thanks. I'm going to replace the fuel water seperator and the fuel filter on the Starboard side and see what happens.
