Default Blown 2006 496 Mag Ho

I know this is taboo for some people, but I did it anyway.. so

So far so good with my new 26zx. I finally got the engine done (496 Mag HO with a custom whipple set up, big big heat exchanger, auxillary oil cooler, etc, etc). I am still prop testing.. I am waiting for some 5 blades. I cant keep the 4 blades locked up well with the high x dimension & the new power. I grabbed about a solid 10mph with a 30p b1 & I still have throttle & torque. The 32p b1 still blows out, there is too much slippage with them. I think the 5 blade will do the trick. I may also go the route of one of Julie's custom cnc props after I do a bit more testing.. Once I get the prop hooked up for a bit It pulls quite well Yippie.. I cant wait to get in the 5 blades to try.. I just hope I get them to try before the docks come out up here.. I want to be all ready for next season..

As soon as I get a chance I will get the video clips together..

Jamie / Lakeside

I agree forged are still the best. However the hypertectic pistons are not as bad as what is commonly thought. The biggest problem with them is that they do not tolerate high heat, lean or imprecise conditions well in comparison to the forged units.. .

I have already taken the internals into consideration before doing what we did. We have this pushed to the point where I feel comfy. I wouldnt go futher with boost than this on the stock internals (5-6psi) even though I had a larger heat exchanger made & we are cooling the oil thru an aux unit as well. So far strong cool runnings..

Good news. I been thinking about Whippleing. Let us know how the 496 will stand up to the boost. How hard was it to install ? did the comp. was reprogrammed by Whipple? any detonation?
thx

We are currently rebuilding two 496HO's with Whipple's. Why did you go with larger heat exchanger?

Did you dyno this engine?

I gained 16 mph when I whippled my 500efi last spring. You definetly have some speed left.

I also have some five blade props in the swap section if you think one would work for you. http://www.offshoreonly.com/forums/s...d.php?t=171955

Figures the props are too small. I am trying to start with a 30 and 32 maximus and go from there. If they work nicely I may go CNC with Julie.

I put a bigger heat exchanger on for more efficient cooling. Especially in warmer waters. I travel south most of the time to run it. I want everything as cool as possible. It will aid in the longevity and power.

I did not dyno this one. However Dustin dynoed a similar one without the additional add ons I did. It pulled over 625hp. Hope this helps. Jamie
