I'm going to buy a "chip" for my 06 P.S.D. and need a recommendation. I haven't seen this addressed in a while and was wondering if there was a better product out there. I like the truck a lot 30 K no problems. I want something that could give some more MPG and maybe a little more towing. I don't want to modify exhaust . What's the best and who has it for cheap?

What you're talking about is a "controller". They provide way more flexibility, different modes of feedback and data that can be displayed telling you what's going on inside your motor.
There's also a good chance your warranty will be invalidated if you have a problem and your dealer can determine ANY aftermarket mods were done to the truck.
I've had a total of 5 6.0's and I've towed up to 12K with more than one of them including some 3000 mile tows of 10K. On absolutely bone-stock motors. I've never felt the need for more power.

I have a 2004 6.0 and what really got me was the turbo lag. I have 5 settings on it from mileage to tow to extreme but I only use settings 1 and 2. I have added an AEM intake which took all of 5 minutes to install and had my local shop put on a 4" magnaflow cat back exhaust on for 600.00 or so. I just like the fact the truck does not constantly **** up and down and so. The tow mode is quite easy on the motor and adjusts the rpm ever so slightly.
IF I had to do it all over again, would probably just leave bone stock.

I have a edge controler. I have only had it for a few thousand miles and I really like it. I run it on 3 or the drive setting it increased the mileage, its hard to tell exactly how much because I put 20" rims and 305 tires on at the same time. I don't think I would "enjoy" driving my truck stock again. I agree that these trucks have plenty of stock power, but the tuner gives you a fun factor when driving the truck! The on the high passing is amazing on level 3. Everyone who has driven my truck since the edge tuner is smiling ear to ear and can't believe for hard is accelerates!

Go here and do a serch. www.dieselstop.com Go to the aftermarket and upgrades 6.0. The one that works the best is SCT, hands down. www.innovativediesel.com Eric or Ted. It is the only one that works with the tranny. Other plug in or modules defuel to make the shifts come off, which in turn burns up clutches and you will see signs of slipping into gear at around 15-20k. The problem is with all this additional power you can turn into a kid again, hammering the snot out of your vehicle continually, which after a while we all know what happens...failures. IMPORTANT. 80hp is the max where you will possibly not need a exhaust, and works just ok on the tranny, but over time you will have problems. Air in (intake) flow out (exhaust) really liven up the units. PLUS it helps keep you in SAFER parameters. You have to ALWAYS keep an eye on EGT's. Exhaust gas temps. 1350 is the max for extended periods of time (1 minute). To do this you will need a monitoring system..Gauges of some sort.
I buy a new truck every year for my daily driver than either another like a Ford or a Duramax for fleet use. I have had 6-6.0 since 03, some have over 100k with a box on them, Ive tried multiple units, EDGE, BullyDog, PPE, Quadzilla, Banks, and so on. You need to be careful and understand how it all works. I am selling my 07 for an 08, I wont be chipping this new model at least I say this now. It is very hard driving stock once you get use to the power. If driven responsibile they do help aiding additional hp with better fuel consumption. Good Luck. Jeff

I have the edge juice platinum. I use it set on 3 for everyday driving, mostly for the fuel economy increase. I am getting 3 mpg better than stock. I drive 1000=1500 miles per week for work. I left the truck stock for the first 30k miles, and was getting 12 mpg per 100 gallons fillup ( I have a 60 gal tool box/tank combo that gravity feeds into the stock tank via the fillneck)
I am now getting 15 mpg. While towing the 382, my truck started puking coolant with the chip set on 2 (towing), so I now leave it on stock while towing. I use the display to keep an eye on the EGT's.
I really like the edge box. I am not sure if that is the cause of the coolant prob, but for the mpg gains on non towing everyday driving, I can't complain.
The next thing I may buy is a gear vendors aux trani which will give me another gear on top of the auto trani, dropping rpm's on top end by 350-400. That should let me cruise at 80 with 1600 rpm's Cost is 4k installed, but should pay for itself in 40k miles

Your puking could be due to two things. Coolant is above the fill line and when egts got somewhat hot it puked to the level overflow line or just below. If hasnt puked more than once this was the problem. If puked more than once your egts got to hot due to the way the EDGE pulls the power out, too much timing. Head gaskets are next...I agree level 1 or 2 when pulling, but a intake and cat back or even turbo back exhaust will help. Good Luck , I still have the Edge on one of my Duramaxs. Jeff.

I never actually saw any coolant hit the ground, but could smell it. I am not sure this constitutes puking.
The coolant level is at the correct line on the jug. I have never ran the egt's over 1250. I check the records on the edge box weekly.
I ran propane injection on it without the chip, stock motor. My old 7.3 ran 130k miles with a 100 hp superchip and propane injection without any probs. I wish they would still offer that motor.

How you can tell if it puked, is look at the resoviour, if you see white dried up streaks around it, just wipe them off, this way you can monitor it. It sounds like it was just slightly overfilled. 2 of mine did that, so I freaked cause I thought I had head gasket problems. Unfortunately, My buddy bought a Bully Dog system, no intake or exhaust as well as no gauges to monitor, and in 8k miles, KABOOM..head gasket.
