Im curious, why do we see so many big boats with bumper style ball hitches? I mean I have seen them on everything from a 47 apache, 46 outerlimits, 50ft hustlers, etc etc.

The only reason I ask is that I been trying to decide whether or not to ditch my SRW F350 diesel to pull my Formula. If my trailer was a gooseneck or 5th wheel setup, I would keep it. I thought of converting the trailer to a gooseneck setup, but I think I'd be pulling my johnson bar with trying to do that.

I beleive ford rates the F450 pickup around 16k lbs max on the ball, 24k on the gooseneck. I would have to think that if my 402 fueled and oiled weighs around 15-16k lbs with the trailer, a 47 apache has to be over 20k lbs?

With that being said, I would be pushing the limits even with a F450 dually pickup. Dont want to have a rig I cant use. I might just ditch my pickup, buy a car again, and use my Mack Semi tractor to tow the Formula. At least I would be legal.

They could be pintles. I believe you can get a pintle to 40K. That's what the tandem semi rigs use on the second trailer to pull the bogey.

I use one on my Apache. It clunks but it's an excellent reminder that it's there.

Im thinking that might be the way to go on the mack. Pintle setup, and easy enough to modify the trailer to accomodate.

That 402 is way too much for an SRW pickup- even with a 5th wheel trailer.

The Mac should do a good job!

I have a pintle that is rated for 18,000 that I use to pull a flatbed equipment trailer. Mine clanks as well but at least I know it is still hooked up and the skid steers are still back there. I love the look on the guy next to you at a stop light when you come to a stop and it clanks, pricelesss.

I have yet to see a 47 apache on a ball, I wouldn't want any more than my 36' on the ball and my 36' is light one with bravos and small power.

I will get you a picture this weekend on my set-up. I made a hitch for the semi. 1/2" steel plate's and lots of welding. Also check with your insurance on the Mac. We made sure ours was covered but it all depends on how the policy is wrote up. I sent my agent a email about it then I printed his response for cover my self later if they want to change their mind...

I agree with you 100%. That's why we went with a gooseneck and a Pete for our 45 Apache.
