to me it looked like the spark was mutiple sparks. I always thought the the plug sparked one time for each time it fired. What is it really doing?

Excellent footage of flame burn and propogation of the flame in the cylinder after ignition. If it was slowed down a bit more one could really tell if the flame burn and travel was good in the combution chamber. As you can see there is really no explosion in a cylinder when a motor is running correctly just a fuel burn and resulting pressure wave that drives the piston down. You can also see here the actual breathing of the cylinder with the air/fuel mix in and exhaust out and notice whn initail ignition tended to start with respect to TDC on the piston, looked a little late?

Just think what a top fuel dragster would look like ,Im guessing a big red flash that looks like it last seconds

I would like to see the tip of the camera that took the vid$$$$Makes ya wonder the material that its made of that would handle thounds of a degree temps?

It might be just the way the video was taken. However, the Capacitive Discharge ignition systems do use short multiple sparks.

Most of the newer coil near plug ignitions use the electronics in the coil and ECM to generate a phased spark array at the plug on lots of current engines to help with fuel/air ignition. Thats why some of these expensive aftermarket (red) coil systems are a great gimmick, you pay more for what you already have!
