Has anyone seen a Raylar LSM 550 yet ? The article in Powerboat sounds extremely good. 1000lbs less for twins with a broad torque band with 550 HP and only $26,000.00 and change including headers.

The 1000lbs less is pretty exciting news in itself. The variable cam timing to allow for torque control sounds good too.

I'm anxious to see a boat test report with this setup. It sounds like a nice package.

I think that is a very nice package. The HP is excellent especially for a twin with a much lighter engine package. Well done guys!

I love it, we already have LS1, LS2, LS6, LS7 kits so you can also bolt an SC right on them, although you can only run low intercooled boost psi's, you can certainly make some serious power.

One thing I have to stress, because I've worked on a few projects like this, although it was the standard GM small block which I think are only 300lbs each lighter is that v bottom boats and some cats simply work horrible when you take away the weight from the tail. Especially open bow v-bottoms. Needs serious adjustments to move the CG back. If it's known before hand on a new boat build, they might be able to shift the tanks back, possibly lighten front, etc. and it will work.

I can't believe the interest and excitement already on this new Raylar motor. Obviously Powerboat delivered all the subscribers issues over the weekend and today because our phones have been ringing off the hook all day long!
I not just talk'in here in the US and Canada, try Greece, Germany, Italy, Sweden, Panama, Fench Guiana ,etc,etc.
Obviously the time has come in the performance boating industry for light, efficient, durable performance marine engines that are not made of iron and don't weigh a ton!
We kinda knew this last year when we started developing this engine from a clean sheet of paper and we think this kind of power and efficiency is going to help reshape performance boating at a most opertune time. With the ridicuosly high cost of fuel, and the current high cost of hand built performance marine engines this new engine will fill a missing component.
Dustin is correct when he says this engines extreme weight savings can be a problem in some boats, it just depends on the builder and the hull type and yes some builders will be adjusting the CG's accordingly, but the end result will be performance boats that have smaller engine compartments if needed, use less fuel, and perform much better with the reduction in weight without spending huge amounts for special cellular cores, special glass fabric and layup methods that are very expensive and getting more expensive by the day. This all ultimatly adds up for you the performance boater to hopefully receive a little more "bang for the buck " in todays expensive marketplace.

Congratulations Ray and Larry! This is a very tempting swap, but I simply do not have the spare $$ right now... Plus, my 6.2's only have 120+hrs. Be sure to let us know any results related to a swap in a newer 292 (or similar). I would like to know what effect the change in CG may or may not have.
