looking to buy a new 502 gm crate marine motor from marine engines or know as 1-800 runsnew any body running a motor 454 or 502 from there?

I had a pair of 502s that ran great. No problems.

I ran a 502 crate up to 400 hours, no problems at all. Heard from a ton of people that its not a marine motor, but the valves were changed out to inconel and a few other marininzing items were done.

No idea about the site, though. why not go direct to a GM dealer? Better yet find a GM employee and give them a couple bucks to handle the order.

My mechanic was quoting me like 3000 for a teardown/rebuild, the new ones were only 6200 back then.

Get in touch with Victory Marine. They are an OSO advertiser. They have the best prices on all Merc engines.

1-800 stay away. I think there is more negitive than positive.

You get what you pay for. There are no bargains, period.

Inexpensive motors are assembled from lower-grade parts, to broader tolerances and by less experienced/skilled assemblers. When you buy Sterlings, you're buying the best possible stuff and a reputation for quality and service.

These budget builders, including the one you mention, have been known to tell customers to F- off on warranty claims. They have also misrepresented their goods in the past as something they weren't (original GM).

You need to search this site if you want complete stories.

One other thing, many don't want to pay claims on engines installed by Joe Shadetree. They want to know that the failure is their fault, not because of improper installation and startup.

I tried the crate motor route. All I can say is junk. I couldn't even get a build sheet that states what is in the motors. Took them out and bought Merc remans. Couldn't be happier. Runs like new now!!! 2 year warranty that merc will stand by !! Really wasn't much more than the "crates".

Suggest you only buy with a credit card, document everything on the install and you may get some warranty if there is a problem

Doesn't pay to F- with an OSO member. They could spend tens of thousands in advertising and still not repair their name with the 30,000+ $$$ spending guys on here.
