Default Oil Filter Change Tricks

I have the oil filters mounted up-side down on my motors. Anybody have any tricks on how to change these with-out getting oil all over the place?

Once the engine oil is warm. Shut down the engine, take screw driver and punch a hole in the top of the filter so the oil drains back down into the pan.

When you spin off the filter, a little oil will be in mount under the filter but it shouldn't spill.

Default trick

put a hole in the top of it, and make sure you go past the check valve... works every time!

Make sure you use the filters without that stupid valve that keeps the oil from draining OUT of the filter.....those just let a filter full drain everywhere when you unscrew the filter.

Some one makes an adapter that mounts between the filter housing and filter that has a drain cock.

As long as you aren't runnign filters with the anti drain back valve all you have to do is crack them and they will drain on their own. Losen it about a turn and you will hear and feel it "glugging" just leave it for about 5 minuits while you suck the engine oil and then they will not make any mess at all.

Cut the bottom of an old plastic 1 gal. milk jug, duct tape cap on, unscrew filter and drop into milk jug.

I have seen those many years ago, HotBoat Mag, wish I would have bought them then, been looking for them again this year and cannot find them at all.
