Default looking at a 89 250 sport

I am looking at a 1989 250 sport with a 7.4 . I don't know what outdrive is on the boat. Does anyone have any input on the boat? How do they ride? What about performance? I would guess about mid 50 for top speed. Do these boats handle rough water well? Thanks

an 89 with the 7.4 should have a bravo drive.

A 250 Sport with the 7.4 may hit mid 50s on a good day but will usually run low 50s.

Had an 89 250 sport with 454 mag/B1. Loved it. Handled 2-3's decent on lake Mi. Towed all over Illinois used for skiing, rough water, and about everything. Stayed on plane at about 19mph with tabs down. Loves the trim button. Look for typical stress cracks at base of cabin entry. Don't break the windshield, I replaced one back in 1994 for $600 then and hard to find. the 365 hp was fun-spirited, 502's were great, the 330 hp on the light side. You'll be wanting more power soon. Mine ran 67/68 then and 502's running over 70 all day.

those sound like speedo readings not gps?
my buddy had a 89 250sport 365 his would run 65 to 67 speedo, my 240 ol would run 67 to 69 speedo with a 502 390hp 62 with a 330hp 454, 585hp 76gps, 650hp 83gps plus a 2''shortie drive, I would say a 330hp 250 56 to 58 gps nice boats, still have my 88240 sport ol mine has fg faring.

I like mine, the ride is pretty good in lake cumberland, ohio river rough water. I run 72 on the gps with 500 hp. I think with the 7.4 you would see 52-54. I have'nt seen anything in the same price range I would even consider trading with.

I have a 1990 250 ES 454-365hp (see classifieds) it has gone 60 mph on gps with a 23 pitch prop. I would say it isn't a rough water boat. Anything over 2' you start getting bounced around pretty good.As good as any other 25' boat though.Overall a good entry level boat, for the money you can't beat it.
