Oh hells bells.. I need time to run it..

So far I went from about 64-66mph Gps TO 78-79gps.. Not bad considering it is a the boat is a big heavy SOB... However I am still phuckin' with props when I have time to get on the water.. I still have more prop slippage than I like..

Lakeside, thats positive feedback for sure that your on your second season. After reading all the horror stories from others,Ive wondered if it was install error, tuning error or what. Ive been considering whipples for the added speed Id like to see, the other option is a complete repower or the Raylar kits. Im not sure the Raylars would put me where I want to be. now raylars and whipple that would be sweet.

I´m pleased to hear that these whippled 496´s run good. A friend of mine has one on a 26 Outlaw, too. It was still slower than my boat was with 525 power, although the 496 produces 600 hp.

Just remember however that when GM produces(d) the 496 units for Mercury, they are doing so to make money with them, and do not spec the rods, headbolts, bearings or gaskets to do any more than deliver 425 hp reliably. The days of overengineered and overspecced base motors are long since over. The dollars are too expensive to give away.

This is why companies like Raylar are doing good legitimate business upgrading the bottom ends of their high performance motors. Whipple´s products work perfectly, but don´t expect an unmodified 496 to deliver 600hp flawlessly unless the base motor has been upgraded to do the job.

There really are no free lunches in life.......
