Correct me if I'm wrong but when Baja closed they laid everyone of permantly with no chance for a job at fountain. Now he gets a grant if he hires local people. If this is the case what a big fu to the people who worked very hard to build the Baja name and reputation.

I'm sure there where around 250 people who worked at Baja in Ohio and if he is going to ad people he will also have to build space so why not just keep the plant in Ohio.

I do respect Reggie for trying to save his company any way he can but I do not see how adding a company that brunswick could not make profitable will make him profitable.

When this first happened I thought Ok he is going to use existing work force and facilities and build Baja's I could see how it could work. But it looks as if he plans to add employees and I assume more facilities so that will make it a lot harder.

Maybe he should stop and look at some (not all) demographics for both of his boat lines and rethink his postion.

Thats all for now but I'm sure I will have more on this topic.

It's North Carolina, not Ohio. I would assume Fountain has no control on "conditions" of a Grant, and I think this grant is NC's way of assiting him while employing their own (NC)people. So, you need to blame Ohio if blame needs to be made.

I'm sure the good people of North Carolina are going to be just thrilled to know their tax dollars will be going to subsidize this guy's racing hobby.

And NC is a right to work state whereas Ohio is not. Average wage, and cost of living, is less. I would imagine some of the people at Baja could get jobs in NC if they are willing to work for less. Cleveland is the fastest shrinking city in the nation, even worse than Detroit.

Welfare is welfare no matter how it's handed out. However, jobs and the taxes payrolls generate, are important so in these times, welfare to the businesses, taxes from the employees.

The taxpayers will just eat up the company line and the State's PR. Simply amazing how long it takes for these things to be found out. The Dell repatriation of overseas cash and the "jobs" in NC was priceless. Taxpayers generally pay 100 cents on the dollar to get 1% back. The incentives aren't taxable as income, and the promises are generally shallow.

In this case, just one more nail in the Ohio coffin, and an uncertain future for the Baja brand. Shareholders are likely screwed anyway.
