Default Aftermarket mechanical fuel pumps???

This weekend my fuel pump diaphram decided it didn't want to live anymore so it puked it's guts out and poured raw fuel into the carb...

Now searching for a replacement I've seen reference to folks getting their mechanical fuel pumps at Autozone and Advance Auto - they look like they're carter style rebuildable pumps - has anyone had any expierence with them? Do they hold up over time?

Also - does anyone have a part number reference for a small-block chevy pump - the OE pump is 861678A1 and the parts guy at advance auto looked at me stupid when I asked for a marine pump and said they don't have boat parts...

Have you considered just replacing the diaphram? Easy to do and low cost. Auto Zone was correct (probably by luck) as your current pump has GC approved safety features like the overflow hose to carb feature you just used.

Dealer says that the pump kit is no longer available and he hadn't seen one for several years....

Here's the link to the Big-Block pump... notice the safety fitting on the top - that *looks* like the exact pump I've got except it's for a big block application...

AutoZone Pump Here...

If you know where to source a diaphram I'm sure that's all that is wrong with it!

Here a couple sbc replacement pumps we offer, I would highly suggest a coast guard approved pump.

He did you a favor. Buy a good marine pump from one of the many suppliers that advertise here on OSO.

In a bind, you can buy an aftermarket pump (holley or carter) with the same number of screws, 6 or 8 and then take out the diaphragm or even the complete bottom half and attach it to your marine upper casting with the puke tube. Easy to do.

When the diaphragm fails fuel will either go into the sump or if the motor is running be pushed out the puke tube up to the carb.

Belt driven marine fuel pumps have different levers to crankcase mounted fuel pumps btw. But the diaphragms and valve bodies are mostly interchangeable

Thanks for the info - I'm only looking at CG approved pumps that have the puke tube - after this pump failed I wouldn't risk otherwise! It's an engine mounted pump - mounts on the block with the 2 bolts just like every carburated 70's chevy engine

I think I'm going to order a Master 60146 pump - the only thing that it may need is to clock the outlet a little differently unless the pic is generic as mine are positioned closer to the pic of the 525-861677T (Plus it looks like the same one as CP is selling as an 895-M60146 and has the same part number?)

Fuel Pump

Can anyone see any reason not to get it other than it looks to be raw and will need to be painted??

CPPerformance - what brand is the 895-M60146 pump? Is it painted/powdercoated?
