Propshaft dyno?
#2
There are VERY few shops that have a prop dyno that is actually designed to accurately measure power. Most of them are fairly simple devices, they consist of a hydraulic pump, a variable valve and a gauge. The operator adjusts the valve so that the engine is held to it's max operating RPM when at full throttle. You can then take a pressure reading from the gauge. Most shops, including the one I am employed with keep track of these readings in a log book and can use them to compare future readings with. As long as you are running stock power or have an engine with some pretty common mods it shouldn't be a big deal to find someone in your area that has some base line numbers written down to compare yours with. Just call some of the higher end marine service places around you and at least a few of them should have a prop dyno.

International Dyno is in the process of designing one with a load cell, we actually just had the the prototype at our shop for a month or so to test. There were a few issues and they are working on them then they are supposed to send us a revised version for additional testing.
