i have always done my own Winter Prep work on my boats but this year we upgraded to a Challenger with V10 Ilmor. i know it's a closed cooling system but it still pulls in water to cool the tank and headers. i have done some homework but wanted to hear from a do-it-yourself'er as well.

any input would be great... thanks in advance...

I woudnt mess around call Ilmor and get a shop manual.

call ilmor and ask for scott 734-456-3600

Pg. 45 of owner's manual

- Fuel Stabilizer
- Fog Engine
- Drain each header (plug on each side)
- Remove Cooler Cover below oil pan to drain water and clean out.
- Drain Strainer if equipped

thanks for the info, i did call Ilmor and they were very helpful. i was on the right track and feel much better hearing it from them.

Do you think it would be a good idea to pour coolent into the headers and heat exchanger after the water is drained? Just for added protection?

What "x7734x" said... I actually modified a 5 gallon bucket with a valve and hose connection at the bottom so I could hook a hose up to it and run it to my water pickup and flip open the valve. Then start the motor back up and suck the antifreeze from the bucket into the raw water system... same idea as you were describing, just done a little differently. You're on the right track though.
