OK boys and girls, just sent off (almost) all of the money for the motor. Looks like the boat will be done by early to mid April. Just in time for summer baby!!

Here's the reeeeeeally good part, I just picked up a set of Gils with everything included for 750 bucks!! things have like 30 hrs on them and look basically brand new. Heres the question for those who would know. These exhaust elbows are really long after the bend, like they go all the way back to the transom. They are sweet but I'm kinda worried they aren't going to fit and may need to be adjusted slightly. Anyone have Gils on their boats? Anyone experience the same prob.? I'm hopeing they line right up They basically bend right after the Manifold then go almost straight back. experience this? suggestions, of the non smart ass type Thanks

Actually the pipes are about as much as the manifolds. They should line up with the back of the boat provided you are not goung to try and get a quick and quiet set up in there. Good luck !!!

On my sport I ran Gils with Stelling Dry Tail Pipes. They came off the manifold and went right through the transom, stock location, about 1.5", enough to put flaps on. THe boat sounded like a dragster, if you want to quiet it down, put on clamp on silencers. And it just so happens I know where ther are a pair of these pipes, cheap too. I was actually seriously considering dry pipes, I don't care how loud it is and the louder the better! However I was told you can't run the inner flaps in them, and I have to have these to keep as much water out of the exhaust as possible. So do you have a set of these dry pipes w/the flaps?

They have to fit if off the same engine and drive mfg with the same tramsom asy etc. That stock length dim. is almost constant from the inside of the transom forward with a std Merc setup. Unless you have a transmission or staggered engines. In which case you would be back ( or should I say forward more) The farther back you induce your water the better. I put a set of Gil Magnums on my 540 and the only trouble I ran into was the angle. Had to put 2 angled wedges and longer studs on each side to re-align to the original holes. Width was no problem. Purchased from Gil. Wedges and gaskets go between the manifold and the riser to raise or lower the exit end and come in various degrees and thicknesses. I use the Shotgun III's to quiet it down a tad when required. Good luck sounds like a great deal GOT ANY MORE??

That sounds all good, except the exhaust came off of a top gun...So who knows if they will fit. I may have to do the angles on it to get them to fit. We'll see.

I don't know of any more deals like that right now....It's just all in who you know brother

The Pipes I am speaking of are water jacketed. The only style flaps or silencers would half to clamp on, you can't or rather, shouldn't drill into the jackets. I just used the simple 4" rubber flaps you can buy at any marine shop, I think they were quicksilver, like 20-25 a piece. They are good for maybe a season. Then the cooling water exits out tiny perferations at the pipe ends, and has a larger 1/2 hose exit on each pipe that needs to shoot out a thru hull fitting for most the water. I had mine spitting over the swim platform, it was a good way to monitor water flow , and warm up your feet. These pipes came off a 28 Saber, I sold mine with the boat, but my friend still has the second pair. Do those exhaust flappers have to close completely when the engine is not running? Mine stay open about an inch or so. Does this mean they need to be replaced?

BTW, they are external flappers, the rubber type...
