They're cheap enough, I would replace them. If they are cracked open to far you could imagine that depending on how and where you park, some heavy water surge could open them enough to put water back in your motor hydro locking it. Hydro-lock usually results in you burning up a starter before it dawns on you what has actually happened. That and water back in your motor just isnt good. You can pull the plugs turn it over for a while, spit out the water, and get it going, but it isn't worth a $50.00 set of flaps. Been there, actually it used to happen allot on Jet-skis when you turned them over the wrong way not running. Anyway just my thoughts. Midnight

I was looking at these flappers to replace mine. They look pretty heavy duty and they seem to at least close all the way:

Yo tank, Mine bolted right up, no problem. Same boat, so you should be okay. Go getcha some 4" high temp hose to go from the riser to the exhaust port in the hull. Measure twice cut once dude, that s*** is expensive. You should be fine though. they sound great, can't wait to hear them bark with the new motor. Hasta.....A4

Thanks for all the replies you guys. I think for now I'm just going to have to take it down to my mechanic and let him figure it out. I'll prob. shine the dry exhaust for now and hopefully the elbows and pipes hook up nicely with the tips I have. We'll see. Hopefully the thing will be done on April 15th.

L.A.

My boat is currently getting a new motor put in. It's being milled and ported as we speak. Started out as a 525 s.c. with super chiller and smaller pully but we'll see what it's putting out when it's all done. Right now I have a 23 three blade stainless...So I don't know the numbers yet...I pulled a 454 out of it and it was running 63 on speedo so that's like 58 in real time!

I'm being told the thing will be putting out around 600 HP so I'm hoping to hit 85.....?? we'll just have to wait and see.
