Active cats; some questions
#1
I would want to bring in this thread the debate on the cats Active that starts in that dedicated to the Cougar.
For Butch Ryan;
In an old thread on OSO it was said that the Active #S888 was the first ever built Active.
This boat that seems to be shorter than a 37' it seems then to have changed name in Express maintaining however the same livery....livery what then we find again on the Express 37.'
Can you tell us a little bit of history?

It is always said that the Benihana Active was the ex Flap Jack of Quam, but then to me any image of that Flap Jack doesn't result before it became Benihana.
Can someone clarify with an image before the Benihana grand Prix of July 14 1982?

Here the version before the crash in St.Augustine race

Here in the St.Augustine race after the crash in a picture from Crouse's Searace

Here the version in Key West World Cup in 1982 after the repairations?Or the 1983 version?

The 1983-84 version of that Benihana-Flap Jack repaired.

An image usually exists on HORBA site of a Flap Jack with a different livery(totally in red?) from that known in red and white.
And it exists then on an old thread on OSO of an Active with the famous number of Quam the #45 and in red-yellow livery and the name Thundercat very similar to that above.
flying fish says that it deals with the same boat and also I agree with him.
Quam raced with the white and red cat for all the 1984;maybe then he changes livery?
Or does it have a new boat?

livery totally different to that in the third image bottom

note the very similar livery to that above

1983 the common version of Flap Jack Active

I have another question;
I believe we are all agree about that the Mr.Roberts of 1984 was the ex Budweiser Light that in turn it was the ex Wolverine.
But when the Budweiser Light raced? 1982? 1983?
Who was the driver? Lee Bomar again because him #793?

? ?

Anthony J. Roberts 1984

Lee Bomar 1981

Good question...I don't think it was ever raced again after Tony and Steve where done with it. it sat in Mer-Cougars yard for 5+ years with a toasted sponson. I painted it for Steve when I worked at cougar when he got the job to throttle for tony but I don't recall the paint job that was on it.

B T, the S-888 or S-30,, was the first Express raced by Butch in 1981, it had a narrow tunnel and did not work that well. The S-1 is a 37' Active that rocked, It was a legal APBA S class cat. I hope Butch jumps in, he can fill us in on the rest.
