I noticed several arneson drives all of a sudden in the classified sec here, just wondering how the 24-6ers act with a surface drive. I saw a python for sale years ago with one, but that's it.
Any experience or opinions?

There is or was a guy on here with an Arneson on a 24 Python. I'll bet you could search it and find some info.
I like the Arneson's just because they are different and indestructable. I would be afraid to try and set one up because of all the variables. I have read that they are not always a match to certain hulls. Also search Donzi and you will find some info about an 18 with an arneson that did 120+

I have an ASD-6 mounted on a 1981 Carrera Elite 20.5. I don't currently have a motor in the boat but with a 468 blower motor it runs into the low 90's GPS. I purchased the boat over 12 years ago and enjoyed it and have since got into bigger boats. The bigger boats are safer at speed. I promise myself every winter that I will put a motor back in the Carrera because it is a really neat package and a fun boat. We have gone through several motors and sent a lot of horsepower through the ASD, it is bulletproof and makes the boat seem much longer. Doug

Back in the 80's there was a 24' Pantera (Green I think) that had an Arneson on it.
Don't know of many others.
I've been told the Python was a 24' Pantera splash??? There were quite a few of those out there with the ASD6 on them.

Rik, I've sort of been brought up with the "Arneson's are bulletproof" mentality as well, but when I looked at your avitar, the Delta from a couple of years ago popped into my head. I'd heard that was a drive failure. Is that accurate?
Not trying to slag Arensons, I think they're really cool, and I've seen enough "bulletproof" stuff break to know that nothing in bullet proof. Just curious really.

We ran aground taking breaking the rudders and such off both drives. Lost steering at that point, crossed in front of one boat, made contact, rolled and then while sitting upside down got ran over by another boat.
Yea, the drives just broke.

You know what PT Barnum said, don't believe any of what you hear and only half of what you see.
I do think your 30 is one of the sharpest looking boats on the water and if I ever end up in a cat, Arneson's would be very high on my list of drives...
