I know this is OSO but I often wonder how many people take
their boats "offshore"? To me "offshore" means crossing one
of the Great Lakes, a long trip being many miles away from
land, or for you ocean guys a trip to Bermuda or one of the
far away "keys". My boats have been a 22 and now 23 ft
cuddy and I have been across Superior(end to end), Huron
3 times(northern area), and Michigan 30 times(north end). I
don't consider this dangerous or foolish at all. However when
I talk to the people at the marinas I visit they all think I'm nuts.
Does anyone else share my passion for trips in open water?
The last few years I have been taking my Niece with me and
she has no fear either. We regularly visit our friends and
Aunt/Uncle in Traverse City. That trip in itself is quite fun.

your not going to find a cig boat driving to bermuda you would need a barge with gas every 100 to 150 miles. I have taken mine offshore to nantucket which is 30miles off the coast I think from bass river. about a half hour at 60mph cruise. blockisland is a 60mile trip from where I put in mass. across cape cod bay or from boston to ptown is a haul. THOSE ARE SOME NICE TRIPS IN WATER THAT CHANGES IN NO TIME

one of the funnest races i ever did was the Miami-Bimini run earlier this year. Pretty cool when you loose sight of land and your on compass at that point.

I run the middle of our lake (Erie) all the time. Hell when i was a kid i did it in a 16 foot wooden Lyman islander. Its only foolish if you are ill prepared or in experianced. I love being on my boat for 3 or 4 days at a time.

We head across lake Michigan all the time. Southern end. We maybe get 10 miles from land at one point. Being prepared is the key.

That was the most rewarding race I have ever done.

We fish a 32' CC and we've gone up to 120 miles straight out from NJ. We routinely are 75 - 100 miles from where we launch every tuna trip unless we're in NC which is 35-45 miles out.

We've taken that boat from Miami across to Chub Cay to fish, 135 miles across the Bahamas flats for the most part.

I have no fear the boat can handle much more than I want too!!!

I'm offshore quite a bit going to the Keys from Ft. Myers. Addtionally I'm out 30-100 miles out on fishing trips.
There's nothing like it out there.

Used to take my 21' er across Lake Mich. From Chicago to Benton Harbour.
Now I just go "out" sometimes untill I can't see land. Just to goof around and get away for a whilel. Did the KW run but it was always near the shore. Few miles out. Planning to go some of the FLA islands later this year. I figure I got about a 100 miles radius.

many times in various things, use to go from san diego to the coronada islands on the jetski even. helli I have even done the mac and the trans erie on blowboats
