Default Mercury extended warranty on 525's, worth it?

My buddy has a pair of 525's running out of warranty shortly. 235 hours with only a Map(p) sensor failing. Is the 5 year extended warranty worth the cost?

I know it works out on the black motors but the blue motors I thought had 5 year claim limits (like $15,000 in claims in the 5 years). The black motors do not have claim limits with the exception of time.

the waranty does not cover wear and tear , only defect's . and with 235 hour's on them i would asume they will need a rebuild soon . and that is not a waranty claim

Rebuild at 235 Hours Not unless he's been running the holy chit out of them. Time to replace valve springs and leak down, compression test. I see blue motors if well taken care of go to 800 hours before needing a rebuild. But everyone need to make their own decisions.

I bought the extended warranty. It pays to do it for the drives. I had a faulty cone clutch, that was bandaided too many times until finally fixed correctly under the extended warranty. My CMI headers leaked and took out an engine with the warranty DID NOT cover though so i dnt think its worth it for the engines alone, but probaly for the drives. The best option though if buying new to buy something without merc engines/drives.

Exactly what I was thinking...235hrs is not alot on N/A motors, they are made to last 500-750 if maintained properly.....and some guys get 800-900hrs.

We got a guy on the lake who has 900 hours on a HP500, but he has replaced the springs and lifters 3 times. He jokes with us that he will replace the bearings at 1000
