Default How come?

How come merc put crane gold rockers under the old valve covers, but when I try to take those valve covers and put them over my own engines they don't clear?

Does Merc have a majic wand or what?

I am sure I am just missing something easy.

Wink

I have a stock engine your valve covers would probably fit on, I would be more than happy to trade you engines' so your valve covers will fit

Yep, forget which ones are though. I think it's on 4 of them. They have 1 of the corners ground down on each to clear the bolt hold down recesses.

I have those. I was actually thinking that, I think I just have them out of sequence.

intake rocker on #1 and intake rocker on #8.

Just as a side note when you grind new ones do not grind it all at once, take a little off at a time and let it cool it in between. It will create enough heat just by grinding that it will crack along where the pin that holds the roller bearing in. Don't ask me how I know.

Yes Merc did grind down a corner on a few rockers..... In the process of my current rebuild on my 575sci's I sent Crane Cams my rockers to match up two sets and the rockers they sent me have a contour built in to them now so they don't even need to be ground........ I will try to get a pic and part number of the new ones...

I allways wondered what those were ground off for. I have never used those stock covers, so I hever woried about that sequence. I just have to re arrange the sequence.
