Default Upgraded 496ho heat exchanger

I am in the process of building a Whipple 496ho. In the process of hanging everything for paint last night I dropped the damn heat exchanger. I think Dustin recomends an upgraded exchanger. Has anyone bought one? If so where did you get it? I would also take a used Mercury unit if someone has one available.

Call Lil Bill or Scott at Victory Marine in Texas, I think they may have a stock used one they can resell you. The stock one should work just fine with a 120-140 degree stat. I don't think the oversized excahnger is warranted unless you see extremely warm water. Its a reaaly good unit with a lot of tubes and it will cool about 750 HP with the proper flow and raw water cooling system condtion. We shipped you coil relocate kit yesterday by the way.

Best Regards,

I run a larger oversized heat exchanger on my blown 496. It is custom made and unfortunatley a bit pricey. It does work well though.. If you are in warmer water & running boost on that engine I wouldnt run without a larger one. Jamie

What was damaged when the heat exchanger hit?

Thanks for the help fellas. Thanks for the info Ray I will call them today. The heat exchanger was dropped on one end and the end was kind of egg shaped. the internals were not damaged. I have it at the radiator shop now so see if they can do any thing with it.
