where to stay in the Keys?

where to stay in the Keys?
I guess there are many marina there, but what would be one of the nice spot to sleep for a night close to the beach / shore.
Where do most of the offshore boats stops when going there?
I'll be in fla march 1st with my family and would like to go there and see what it looks like!

Islemorada not sure on the spelling is where I stay, its got the tiki bar the sand bar is a short run good shoping and a fair price. I stay at the pink hotel there but I cant remember the name, sure somebody here does. plenty of good docking.
