Default What would be best power combo for 24 outlaw

I have a 96 24 outlaw sst. I am thinking about repowering it. PUt a new x drive on it last year, gimble ring and berring.

I was thinking a 500 HP ? and was hoping to get over 70 mph.

any suggestions? where to buy and build engine... Live near Toronto Ontario.

I had a 95 and I put a Whipple on a 454 and it went 76 mph. I would say it had about 525-550 hp. If you go with a HP 500, do some head work and maybe a slightly larger cam and you will be at 75 mph.

for what a used 500 or 525 cost you would be better to talk to a builder on the board and have a motor built. I use DEAN GELLNER [Mrhorsepower] on here his phone is 216 398 8500 for speed when I HAD 585 AND 650hp I would get 74 to 76 when Iput on a 2'' shortie and carb change I went to 83.2gps and hit the limiter at 6000rpm. now I have a 572 blown motor which should dyno at 1050hp on 93oct higher on race gas. but Dean has a nice 540cu which can be set up to run on cheap gas 89 with 600hp that will last a long time. he is freshing up a 540 race engine this winter it was a 800hp model on race gas it has 3or 4 seasons on it about 40 races. and they are going to go threw it just because other teams have to rebuild theres every week or year. so do your self a favor and give him a call oh he can do a 502 but its so close in price to a 540. you will need full hyd steering and a 2'' shortie k planes and the boat will fly. if you do that and go with his 600 or 650hp motor you will hit 85 when you want. and handle better. any questions call me or pm me #617 833 3327, art

oh running 60 or 62 with a stock big block and then going to 70 is not that great its getting over 75 that is cool and once your at 80 its WOW. But I want more been there actually
I have been to 137 trying for 150 last summer in a cat so goal is to hit a 100 and then 110. and I am done in my boat so the next time someone says bajas are slow I will pull the gps reading out of my pants and say oh yaah. I had to do that to a superboat friend did see it so the next time I was out I TOOK PICS at 79 and 80.3 with my camera why fighting chinewalk so you could see the tach/gps/water at the same time it was hard driving throttling camera ing haaahha get it. shut him up. art

500HP should get you right at 70mph, I do agree, for what a used 500 or 525 will cost a custom builder will put you over the top.

Thanks for the input.. I have some thinking to do.

I was thinking about rebuilding my 454 thunderbolt into something with high HP but dont know what the reliability will be..? it is just an entry level engine and is it worth it..

it would be worth a call to DEAN, I can't wait for mine to hit the dyno and when its in the boat I won't be worried about it lasting after seeing some of his race motors hold up at 7000rpm race after race. and he is a very nice guy to talk and ask questons he does not look down on people like some builders I have seen. 80s a lot cooler than 70 that gets old fast, and its nice to know you have the power if needed. art
