Angry HELP! I need a new water pump!

I need a new water pump, the one on the front of the engine that's the costly one! I called my dealer to price a new one and asked him for the price and part number. Of course he gave me the price ($265) but not the number. He gave me some BS excuse and I got a little pissed and hung up. Is this a fair price for a 97 454/300 hp OMC engine. I want to search the net for a comparison, but as usual when I try anything with OMC all I hit are block walls. If anyone has some links for me I sure would apprecaite it, and I want your opinion about this being the going price for a pump!

Try mercruiserparts.com. Look under your engine, assuming it's a gm engine. Shouldn't mater if it is an OMC, at least for comparisons. They vary from $90 to $140 in the West marine catalog depending on application.

bring it to your local automotive parts store and get a big block (short) water pump around $50....I would'nt pay for the Marine version unless I ran saltwater....but even then I can get several of the automotive pumps for the price of a marine pump.....my.02

Thumbs up

Thanks for the replies and I will check it out going to an auto parts store. I only run in fresh water, so I'm not that concerned about corrosion. I didn't think about that and also will see what O'Reilly has for marine pumps!

Hi,

I have this pump I took off a 1997 Mercruiser 454 Magnum. Works fine. I replaced it with a SS crossover since I have a blower. Make me an offer. I'm putting in the classifieds here.
I'd still go with a marine pump, the automtove pumps need the lubrication of the anti-freeze and they will still corrode.
