Question Hydraulic Steering - do you keep the tiller arm?

G'day all,

Just looking at the transom assembly while I've got the motor out. When you've got full hydraulic steering (IMCO), is there a need for the tiller arm from the old set up? Can I remove it or more importantly should I?

(Mind the wiring etc in the pic, I've cleaned it up a lot since then!)

The arm also functions as a spacer on the upper swivel pin for the gimbal ring. You can cut it off but you need to keep the spacer function intact.

Excellent thanks!

That's all I needed to know.
I think I'll leave well enough alone, especially now I know it's a spacer etc.

Cheers!

I trimmed mine off a few years ago then sanded the edges/re-painted it before re-installing it. Not on is it a spacer but it clamps on the swivel pin,Smitty

I also cut the ears off then trimmed the inner transom plate where the cable attached (in your pic the drive lube bottle is next to them) to un-clutter the engine compartment,Smitty

That sounds interesting! Do you have a pic of the earless transom plate?
