Im currently running 2 amps (1000 watts total), (2) 12 inch subs, (6) 6.5 coaxial speakers, a 4 farad digital capacitor and 3 die hard marine batteries.
Problem I run into is if Im just hanging out in the bay with friends we can only go so loud before the stereo starts to "cut out".
What is the best marine battery out there for stereo's? I thought the capacitor would fix my problem but now think Ive got to focus on the battery's Im using.
Suggestions??

How long until your amps start to cut out? With 3 decent sized batteries, you should be able to crank it for a while. Are you running your amps below their rated OHM loads? For example, if you are running 6 speakers off a 2 channel amp, that may be your problem. Give us more info

Never failed yet, BTW, many other's on here run the same model.
strap it to the swim platform.

My amps are all running within the ohm spec and I have no problem whatsoever when the engine is running--its only after I turn off the engine. I only run into issues when we are really turning the stereo up (louder than most people would IMO).
I was just doing some research online and was looking at the Stinger SP1700--anyone have any experience with these? Looks like exactly what I need.
Baja Will--thanks for the generator suggestion but there is no way Im going to strap a gas powered generator onto the back of my boat!! Ive got people swimming back there which means that swim platform is used alot.

I had the same problem in my old scarab and tried to solve it the same way. It was not much bigger then yours I added 2 more batterys and sovled the problem after seeing the little honda generators power huge stereos I would recomend doing that, they are so small they can run in your engine compartment. I know you have the room in that big single engine boat of yours.

Powerquest, Are you saying as soon as you turn up the volume, It starts to cut out? Or are you playing for a few hours and then it cuts out? I run 2400 watts and I can run it all on one battery, all the way up, But not for very long(maybe an hour). Your capacitor is only for your subs. The capacitor does use up some more power from your batteries than just amp power.I run a 1.5 on each sub. It sounds like you have a bad connection or too small of power wire to your amp or breaker-fuse.

Im using 4 gauge wire from the battery to the cap and then 8 gauge to the amps which is not undersized at all.
What Im saying is when we really want to get the stereo going and we really crank it up then I can have the stereo cut out..
Its probably a combination of my alternator which is stock (140 amp?) and a 500 amp marine battery (die hard). I think I will just take the plunge and spend the $380 on the stinger battery unless someone can suggest another battery with at least 1200+ amps. I dont like having to spend that kind of coin on a battery but I also dont like the fact that I cant use my stereo the way it was intended without having the engine running and charging the batteries.

What equipment are you running? What is your ground wire and were is it running to? Remember when your motor is running you have aprox. 14.4 volts. When the engine is off you have aprox 12 volts. Some amps do not like to run with less then 14 volts. If you have regulated power supplies then you should be ok if not then you will see what you are seeing. I like to run very efficient amps in boats so class D is ussually the best. While they are not the best sounding in the world they do not kill batteries like a class A will.
