Default sea water pump impeller???

Hello All,
The first run out today after a brand new take off sea water pump and the impeller lost 6 vanes the pump and impeller were brand new . What would cause this to happen , would two new tube coolers and a fresh water system cause this to happen. I don't believe I sucked something up but can't be so sure. The exhaust is brand new aluminum , how much heat can these take up you can damage them . I did not take a long just a easy cruise , has anyone ever torned one of these new mercruiser bravo sea water pump impeller up . Any advice would be greatful. Thanks Alec

Did you swap the inlet and outlet hoses by mistake on the sea water pump ?

Did the cooling work OK initially and then it suddenly happened, or did not work from the beginning ?

For that to happen you would think that somehow the sea water pump did not get sea water and hence it is ruined.

I don't think it matters if the hoses are swapped, but they were installed the way they came off . The pump worked fine on the hose and when I first put it in the water.

Are you sure you installed the impeller with the vanes bent back the correct way for the rotation of the pump?

ran the pump dry. I burned one up on Saturday as well. Something clogged the low water pickup on the Imco and completely destroyed the impeller.

That does not matter. They will right themselves within the first couple of rotations.
