I bought a Hallett 210 recently from someone that used it at high elevation, and wanted to check the timing for sea level. The motor is a 509 built by Paul Phaff, with Arizona Speed and Marine fuel injection on it. I wanted to know where the base timing should be at, and are there any tricks that I need to know because of the ECU?
Thanks in advance.

SEA LEVEL or not has nothing to do with timing !!
A safe # would be 32-34 on a 509 CI ,,but i would call Paul Pfaff and ask him !

You need to jump the A and B terminals on the data plug. There will be a 10 pin rectangle plug with a cover on it somewhere on top of the engine. It will only have 4 or 5 wires going to it. You can use a paper clip to jump those 2 terminals. Both wires to the A and B should probably be black. This will put the engine in base timing mode and basically take the ecm out of the equation as far as the timing goes. You will need to know what the engine builder set the base timing at. Usually, most builders set the timing on a Mefi 3 at 8 degrees and a Mefi 4 at 10 degrees. Obviously, you will need to know which ecm you have. If you do not know, then remove the ecm and give me the numbers on the back of it. Hope this helps, Eddie.
