Default 350/330hp set timing without light

Any old timers have a trick at setting ignition timing "by ear"without a timing light? Here's where I'm at:

Boat has MSD 6M-2 Marine ignition

*new msd Dist cap on a msd 8560 Pro Billet Marine Dist.
*new magnetic pick up
*new rotor
*new wires
*new plugs

Started engine in driveway, nice idle-sounds good.
I'll test on water Sunday. Just want to play with timing a bit.

Thanks
Tom

AND DO NOT USE A DIGITAL TIMING LIGHT ON MSD !!!!!!!

Get the cheapest one u can find !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Sirious,,,it sometimes advances the timing by 18* with a digital light. ( BY ITSELF ) thenu end up leaning it out and burning a piston !!!!

If u don't believe me ,,,call MSD they tell u the same thing.

For all the money in your parts you listed, I would think you could shell out $20 at Auto Zone for a cheap timing light.
