Keep your eyes open for this new eco-hippie self interest group calling themselves Splash, they are trying to force the city to cancel the 1000 Islands run. They are a group of whiny ass locals who have been in the media and to council meetings spreading lies and propaganda about poker runs in attempt to persuade council to ban it from Kingston. They have even gone as far as saying that one boat will produce more pollution during the run than all of the vehicles in the city will produce in a year as well as saying that the boats will burn over $7000.00 a piece in fuel in 3 hours. I guess the fact that this is the single largest event in this city for the entire year does not matter. No other event comes even close to matching the revenue generated or the attendance that this does. But according to Splash, houseboat regattas, solar powered boat races and blowboat competitions will be far better sources of revenue for the city and more enjoyable for spectators... They have the CORK competetion here every year and I am yet to see dozens of people lining the shoreline to watch that crap let alone the thousands that show up for the Poker Run, in fact most of the people in the city don't even know about it.....

Default pre- run lunch

As a poker run participant for over fifteen years and a newly elected councilor for The Township of Leeds & 1000 Islands it is my pleasure to organize a lunch for you and your crew to stretch your legs and show off your ride before hitting the ramp in Kingston for the 09 poker run.

As the township responsible for more than 950 of these beautiful islands we travel through we would like to acknowledge your contribution to the regions attractiveness as a vacation destination. Many volunteers have come together to provide you a wonderful lunch with a two station radio location covering the stories fiction or fact from the pilots of these awesome crafts as well as a goody bag containing many valuable treasures from the area. I would personally like to see this succeed and carry forward but cannot do it without you. If you could take it upon yourself to forward this info to any in your group attending this event it would be appreciated. And yes for those who can my truck will be full of beer. We are even providing koozies.

Please rsvp if possible to myself or Jen. Our numbers are on the attachment for more info.

We are too close to the 401 and the 1000 islands bridge to not attend.

Thank you in advance. See you there.

my 2WD Chev 4500 got stuck, so we used the PRA ford dually, got stuck also... if you look carefully second picture, our solution was a good GMC half ton p-up, pulling the dually and my boat with a rope, out of the mud... took an hour to succeed...

nice souvenir indeed!

I'd love to...I have enjoyed the A-Bay run a few times. In 2007 we won the winner-takes-all 10k....what a blast. Unfortunately, biz problem has limited my PRuns for this yr.....
Although I am looking for a sponsor??

Hey Guys!

I also attend every year, but, only to watch, my "little" Baja isn't really "enough" to run with the stuff that shows up there, some REALLY gorgeous stuff there.

I have a cottage on Wolfe Island, so, I usually just take the ferry over and walk around the marina and streets, I too, hope it doesn't rain, it has several years in the past, but, its still always a well run event.

As for "SPLASH" well, hopefully there is a Star Trek convention or Dungeons and Dragons tournament that they will need to attend instead! I was watching the news a few weeks ago [CKWS] and saw an inteview on "SPLASH" [check out the Great Lakes and Canada Thread] They are complete idiots, I cant see 1000's of people showing up for "solar boat races", they ***** and moan about the amount of gas burned during the event? funny, last time I checked THEY weren't paying for it!

They also complained about the windwill farm on Wolfe Island since it ruined the "natural view" of the Island, which is a valid arguement, but, as an "eco friendly" group how do you argue against wind power???, just a bunch of self serving idiots with there own agenda looking for attention, I imagine they could never afford a boat like the ones in the poker run, so, they figure no one else should have one and enjoy it.

If you need a good laugh they DO have a facebook page, I beleive they are about 30 members strong!

Well, I am off my soapbox now! I hope this year is a sucessfull "Splash free" event, if anyone needs a hand with a boat/directions or anything else, then just let me know,

Thanks to everyone!

Michael
