One is 300hp and the other is 310 and the differences between these two engines is the intake manifolds, And the first link is called the [ L 29 engine]. And the L29 would be a newer year, Merc replaced this engine and started using the 6.2 engine used today, 320hp.To see the intake manifold and plenum you will need to find and open it up in this link.http://www.mercruiserparts.com/selec..._nbr=809994+98 And here is the first style made,310hp.http://www.mercruiserparts.com/Show_...+INTAKE+PLENUM Or the hole engine link.http://www.mercruiserparts.com/selec..._nbr=809994965 I believe there is a few other little things different between the two, but I believe the intake system is the main thing. I can not remember if there was a big head change between the two or not.
